Correio do Ribatejo4 September 2026 at 11:30

The Director of the Convent of Christ, Andreia Galvão, expects the cloisters renovated under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) to be available for visits in September, while the Terreiro de Armas should reopen in October. In statements to the Ecclesia news agency, the official stated that "the life of a monument does not end with the PRR," highlighting the importance of looking beyond the funding program.

The president of Cultural Heritage indicated that the project was reformulated to safeguard the monument, demonstrating concern for heritage preservation during the interventions. This reformulation comes in the context of ongoing recovery works at the Convent of Christ, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Convent of Christ, located in Tomar, is one of the most important historical monuments in Portugal, being a must-visit for anyone who knows the city. The progressive reopening of spaces to the public represents an important milestone for the complete recovery of the monument after the intervention works.
