The pair of 16th century stone elephants belonging to the collection of the Municipal Museum of Santarém will return to the Church of São João do Alporão after several decades stored in the Municipal Museum Reserve.
The two pieces will be presented to the public on September 19th, at 6:00 PM, at a ceremony that will take place at that monument.
The Church of São João do Alporão has recently been the subject of renovation works, which allowed for the repositioning of the pieces in the historic location.
The Municipal Museum of Santarém is the institution responsible for managing this collection, which includes the two stone elephants over 400 years old.
