The commission responsible for instructing the process for the creation of the municipality of Fatima was published in Diário da República. This commission will have the function of analyzing and following up on the request for the creation of the new municipality.

The movement Fátima a Concelho was responsible for driving this process, delivering to Parliament, in December 2025, the formal request for the creation of the municipality of Fatima.

This citizen movement represents the efforts of the local population that advocates for the separation of the municipality of Fatima from the current municipality of Ourém, of which it is currently part administratively. The creation of a new municipality would represent a significant change in the territorial division of the district of Santarém.
