Film shot in Idanha-a-Nova distinguished as "Best National Film" at Gardunha Fest

The short film TARDO, filmed in various locations in the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, won the awards for "Best National Film" and "Audience Award" at the 2026 edition of Gardunha Fest – Beira Interior Short Film Festival, which took place in Fundão.

Written and directed by Carlos Calika, the production is the result of a partnership between Ajidanha and the Teatro Amador de Pombal. This collaboration had already achieved recognition with the short film MONSTROS, grand winner of the previous edition of the same festival. TARDO had its world premiere at the Machicurtas festival in Madeira, where it won the award for "Best Film".

The film was shot in Idanha-a-Nova, Idanha-a-Velha and Monsanto, inspired by the folklore and traditions of Beira Baixa, integrating identity elements of the territory, from cultural and landscape heritage to the adufe and other expressions of local culture.

This new distinction represents an important recognition for everyone involved in the production and contributes to affirming Idanha-a-Nova as a territory for artistic and cinematic creation. TARDO now continues its journey through festivals, already selected to compete at MOTELX – International Horror Film Festival of Lisbon, where it will compete for the award of "Best Portuguese Horror Short Film".
