Night flights in Lisbon soar: 33 out of 35 weeks exceeded the legal limit

SAPO Notícias4 September 2026 at 10:40

The Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon remains far from regularly complying with the legal limits applicable to night flights. According to the analyzed data, 33 of the last 35 weeks exceeded the legal limit established for this type of operation.

The situation reflects a persistent trend of non-compliance, showing that the airport cannot effectively manage the impact of night operations on neighboring communities and compliance with current legislation.

The excess of night flights has been generating growing concerns among residents living in areas surrounding the airport, who face significant levels of disturbance during nighttime rest hours.

The competent authorities now face the challenge of finding solutions that allow reconciling the airport's operational needs with strict compliance with legal limits and the quality of life of affected populations.

The main equipment includes air defense systems, drones, radars, and precision artillery. In addition to commercial transactions, the countries signed a "joint military work plan" that includes permanent dialogue structures between the armies, joint industrial projects, and joint military maneuvers to face emerging threats.
