European Climate Pact calls on Gaia City Council to develop Municipal Climate Action Plan

The European Climate Pact is making an appeal to the Municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia to develop a Municipal Climate Action Plan. The local authority has been in a situation of legal non-compliance since 2023, having not yet developed the plan required by current legislation.

The ambassadors of the European Climate Pact are demanding that the development of this plan be carried out within a participatory process, involving residents from all parishes of the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia. This demand aims to ensure that the local community has a voice in defining climate measures for the territory.

Mafalda Bastos Moura, ambassador of the European Climate Pact, made a direct appeal to the mayor of Vila Nova de Gaia, Luís Filipe Menezes. In her intervention, Mafalda Bastos Moura argued that the mayor should promote justice and participation for his citizens, underlining the importance of an inclusive and transparent process in the development of municipal climate policies.
