Casa das Mudas, located in Calheta, Madeira, will compete on September 5th for a place in the National Grand Final of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal, in the category "21st Century - Contemporary Architecture". The space, which currently houses MUDAS. Museum of Contemporary Art of Madeira, represents the Autonomous Region of Madeira in this National Semi-Final.
The competition will be broadcast live by TVI, allowing national visibility for the Madeiran space. This participation is part of the broader context of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal, a contest that elects the best architectural and natural achievements in the country.
The building was designed by Madeiran architect Paulo David, who conceived a structure that stands out for its harmonious integration into the surrounding landscape of Calheta. The use of basalt as a construction material is one of the distinctive characteristics of Casa das Mudas, establishing a visual and cultural connection with the island territory.
