The organization Transport & Environment (T&E) defended the electrification of transport as a way to guarantee the European Union's energy sovereignty. According to the organization, the EU currently depends 93% on fossil oil imports to meet the needs of the transport sector. T&E warns that this strong external dependence represents a significant risk to the bloc's energy security. The organization argues that the transition to electric vehicles is the solution to reduce this vulnerability. According to T&E, each electric vehicle on European roads contributes to reducing the demand for imported fuels, thus strengthening the EU's energy autonomy.
