Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced last Sunday, during the closing of the PSD Summer University in Castelo de Vide, the creation of a new university. According to Montenegro, the "University of Bragança and Northern Interior" will be created, resulting from the transformation of the Polytechnic University of Bragança. The announcement was made far from Bragança, in the district of Portalegre.
The National Federation of Higher Education Student Associations reacted with criticism to the way the announcement was made. The federation considered that Montenegro announced a novelty about higher education "without consulting higher education", meaning without having previously consulted the sector's entities.
The announcement comes in the context of a PSD party event, where the prime minister presented this measure as part of his policies for higher education in the northern region of the country. The student federation expressed its displeasure at not having been consulted or informed about this decision before the public announcement.
