Thousands of residents of Ceuta returned to the streets to protest against detention centers for migrants. This was the second demonstration in a few days in the Spanish city located in North Africa, following previous protests against the presence of unaccompanied migrant minors.
The demonstrators expressed their opposition to the detention centers, arguing that these facilities are not the adequate solution for migration management in the region. The mobilization showed that social tension in Ceuta remains high due to migration pressure.
Local families also denounced the insecurity generated by this situation. Residents expressed concern about the impact that the presence of these centers and the migration flow are having on their communities and the safety of the city.
Ceuta, together with Melilla, are the only land borders of the European Union on the African continent, which makes the city a critical point on the migration route between Africa and Europe. The situation has generated growing unrest among the local population and Spanish authorities.
