Francesco Totti, one of the greatest idols in Roma's football history, decided to venture into a new sport at 49 years old. The former player officially joined Maxima Roma, the new basketball club from the Italian capital that will compete in the national top division. Totti will serve as a consultant for the team, with a primary focus on building the fanbase and on social responsibility projects.
The agreement comes with millionaire figures. According to the Italian newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport," Totti signed a three-season contract and will receive more than 1 million euros per year, equivalent to approximately 6.3 million reais annually. The former athlete stated he is seeking new challenges and that the position and the project offered convinced him immediately.
Maxima Roma is a newly created project with the goal of putting the Italian capital back among the protagonists of the country's basketball scene. The club guarantees participation in the national top division and aims to establish itself as a force in the Italian sports landscape.
