Civil Guard Antonio Balas was promoted to colonel this Friday, remaining in command of sensitive investigations involving the Government and its president. The Official Defence Bulletin published Balas's promotion, who until now was a lieutenant colonel in the economic investigation area of the Central Operative Unit of the Civil Guard.
Balas will continue leading cases of major judicial relevance being processed at the National Court, including the Koldo-Ávalos, Leire Díez and Santos Cerdán cases. This police body confirmed that the officer will remain in his post, as had already been announced since he entered the promotion cycle.
The maintenance of Balas at the UCO is significant, as this unit is responsible for investigating corruption cases that directly affect members of the Spanish executive. The fact that he continues in the position after the promotion allows for continuity in the ongoing investigations.
