The Castro Mineiro festival celebrates its fifth edition from September 4 to 6 at Parque da Liberdade in Castro Verde, with the aim of promoting the "mining identity" of the municipality. The event is organized by the Castro Verde City Council in partnership with Boliden Somincor, the concessionaire company of the Neves-Corvo mines, one of the most important mining operations in Europe.
The opening ceremony took place on Friday, September 4, at 6:00 PM, with the presence of the Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho. The mayor of the municipality, António José Brito, highlighted that the festival aims to showcase the reality of a territory whose identity has been shaped by mining activity, promoting the encounter between culture, heritage, innovation and community.
The musical program includes concerts by Sonido Andaluz on Friday, Soraia Ramos on Saturday and Celina da Piedade on Sunday, as well as several bands and DJs throughout the three days. The event also features a conference on the archaeological treasures of Neves-Corvo, a photography exhibition, an open day at the mine on Saturday morning, rescue demonstrations by the Boliden Somincor Intervention Group, a comedy show, food stalls, wine tastings and activities for children.
