Eleven years ago, Catarina Oliveira experienced a sudden inflammation in her spinal cord, with no known cause, that took away the movement in her legs. What began as a mild back pain transformed, within a few days, into a profound change in her life, which occurred halfway through a trip to Brazil.
Today, Catarina gets around in a wheelchair and decided to transform her experience into activism. She uses social media to create content and promotes open conversations about topics she believes continue to be taboo in society.
Catarina herself states that when she meets new people or is with someone who has never seen her body, she feels very secure in who she is beyond the physical condition that requires her to use a wheelchair.
