Plug-in hybrid cars are more polluting than expected

A study conducted by the International Council on Clean Transportation revealed that plug-in hybrid cars emit significantly more CO2 than certification values suggest. The research analyzed real emissions data from these vehicles.

According to the study, the average real CO2 emissions from plug-in hybrids were 3.5 times higher than certification values in 2021. This number worsened considerably in the following years.

In 2023, real emissions exceeded officially declared values by manufacturers by 4.6 times. This represents a significant increase in the discrepancy between the announced numbers and reality.

The results suggest that plug-in hybrid technology may not offer the environmental benefits promised to consumers, raising questions about the real effectiveness of these vehicles in combating carbon emissions.
