Ukraine publicly presented for the first time the Rapid Ranger air defense system, of British manufacture, mounted on a vehicle of Spanish origin. The display marks a new chapter in Western military support to the country, which seeks to strengthen its defenses against Russian air attacks.
The Rapid Ranger system is equipped with LMM Martlet missiles, which are 1.3 meters long and weigh 13 kilograms each. The projectiles can reach speeds of up to 1,800 km/h, making them effective against short-range aerial threats.
The integration of the system on a Spanish vehicle demonstrates the ability of the Western defense industry to adapt equipment to different platforms. This flexibility allows supporting countries to send defense systems that can be quickly integrated into Ukrainian forces.
The system is classified as a "short-range storm" solution, designed to intercept drones, helicopters and other aerial threats at low altitudes. The need for such systems has been a priority for Ukraine, which faces an intense campaign of Russian drone and missile attacks.
