On September 3, the first anniversary of the accident at the Elevador da Glória was completed, one of the iconic public transport systems of the city of Lisbon. The accident caused the death of 16 people and left 23 injured. The elevator, which connects Baixa and Bairro Alto, is one of the most well-known means of transport in the Portuguese capital and an important tourist attraction.
The fatal victims and the injured had their lives interrupted abruptly during a short journey. Relatives were devastated by the loss and many future plans were completely altered by this tragedy. The accident immediately mobilized the firefighters, the INEM teams and the civil protection services to the scene.
