Hundreds of residents of Ceuta returned yesterday to the streets in protest against the detention centers for migrants being prepared by the Spanish government. The centers serve as a preliminary step for the expulsion of migrants from the Spanish enclave in northern Africa.
The protests focused on an open area next to a nursery that is being prepared by the government to house the detention centers. The residents also protested against the announcement of another detention center at the West Quay of the port, located next to two residential areas.
The residents of Ceuta have been organizing demonstrations as a form of pressure against the government's migration policy, demanding that the centers not be installed in areas near their homes and essential facilities such as nurseries and schools.
