The crisis at the Brazilian Supreme Court gained new chapters with friction between ministers Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça. Moraes formally requested the inclusion of Mendonça in the so-called Fake News Inquiry, accusing him of a crime, which represents an escalation in the court's internal conflict.
STF President Edson Fachin decided to break his silence given the situation and requested clarifications from the two ministers involved in the dispute. Fachin's intervention occurs at a time of growing tension among the Court's members.
The Fake News Inquiry is one of the investigations pending at the Supreme Federal Court that investigates alleged fake news and attacks against the Court's ministers. The inclusion of a minister in the very same inquiry represents an unprecedented situation at the court.
