Moraes points to 'strong evidence' of crimes by Mendonça and requests investigation in fake news inquiry

extra4 September 2026 at 00:40

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), sent to the Court president, Edson Fachin, Federal Police intelligence reports pointing out alleged irregularities committed by Minister André Mendonça in the conduct of investigations into the Sem Desconto and Compliance Zero operations.

In the decision, Moraes states there are "strong evidence" of administrative improbity, abuse of authority, and crime of responsibility by Mendonça. The documents produced by the PF point to three main fronts of irregular action.

The first would be the alleged usurpation of the direction of investigations, with damage to the chain of custody of evidence. The second front involves improper participation in plea bargain negotiations. The third would be the direction of investigations against Moraes himself and against the Senate president, Davi Alcolumbre, for reasons the reports attribute to personal and political motivations.

Moraes determined that the decision and reports be sent so that appropriate measures may be taken within the scope of the fake news inquiry.
