The director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, told CBN that the movement by Supreme Court ministers to remove delegates from their offices is "very positive." Rodrigues stated that "a police officer's place is at the police," with the only exceptions being security and organized crime fighting areas, such as security secretaries and at COAF (Financial Activities Control Council).
This position represents another chapter in the crisis between the Supreme Court and the Federal Police. The court's senior minister, Minister Gilmar Mendes, approached the court's president, Edson Fachin, to advocate for the removal of delegates from ministerial offices.
The topic gained momentum after criticism of delegates working in the office of Minister André Mendonça, rapporteur of the Master case at the Supreme Court. Gilmar Mendes had previously advocated for the removal of delegates on other occasions, but the current tension has reignited the debate over the practice.
The expectation is that André Mendonça will soon release the report on the Master case, which may help define the next steps in this conflict between the Supreme Court and the Federal Police.
