Liberal Initiative votes against Chega's motion of censure. "Serious case, but limited to one minister"

The Liberal Initiative will vote against the motion of censure against the Government presented by Chega, revealed the party's president, Mariana Leitão, in an interview with CNN Portugal. The liberal leader accused Chega of intending to transform a serious case but limited to one minister into an instrument of chaos to create a new political crisis in the country.

Mariana Leitão clarified that the decision does not represent any undervaluation of the seriousness of the Luís Neves case. On the contrary, the Liberal Initiative considers that the circumstances surrounding the minister seriously weaken the government and reveal great irresponsibility on the part of the prime minister, who should dismiss him. For the liberal leader, this should be the response to the problem, not the creation of a bigger problem.

The LI president stated that there are ministers sitting in the Council of Ministers who do not understand why Luís Neves is beside them, why he was invited to be a minister, why he remains in office, and why Luís Montenegro cannot explain the situation.

Mariana Leitão also guaranteed that the Liberal Initiative will not participate in the usual maneuvers of the Chega party that aim to use political instability in the lives of Portuguese people as an instrument for its partisan interest, and that it will continue to demand answers about the Luís Neves case, pressing the Government and the President of the Republic to resolve the situation. The debate on the motion of censure was scheduled for September 8th.
