GLOBO photographer Brenno Carvalho captured an image that gained widespread attention: Justice Alexandre de Moraes smiling among his fellow magistrates as he left a session at the Supreme Federal Court. The photo was taken in the early evening on Wednesday, through a gap between a curtain and a glass, after nearly two hours of waiting at the STF entrance.
The image's repercussions came amid a crisis that erupted a day earlier, when messages exchanged between Moraes and banker Daniel Vorcaro were revealed. The photo also shows the first encounter between Justices Mendonça and Moraes after the clash over the matter involving Vorcaro.
The justices themselves explained that the smile had no relation to the crisis, but rather to a joke made by Justice Flávio Dino about a tax matter. Brenno detailed that he needed to wait quite a long time at the court's entrance until he managed to get the shot.
The snapshot was obtained as the justices left through the front door of the STF, and the image quickly spread across social media and news outlets, generating debates about the timing of its publication amid the context of the political crisis.
