Migrants who managed to swim to Ceuta have shared videos on social media showing their happiness, making victory signs, and walking through the avenues of the European city. The Foreigners Intelligence unit of the Spanish National Police monitored many of these online accounts before the massive entry of foreigners in Ceuta on July 30 and 31.
Since the beginning of summer, there has been a gradual increase in the number of swimmers arriving in Ceuta, intensifying until the end of July. This flow was closely followed by Spanish authorities.
A month after the migratory avalanche of those two days, an active market for wetsuits and fins continues to exist in Morocco, targeted at new candidates who want to attempt the crossing. This trade is fueled by the success stories shared on social media, which serve as inspiration and proof that the crossing is possible.
