The Government of Ceuta will appear as a private prosecutor in the National Court case regarding the massive influx of migrants

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General3 September 2026 at 19:46

The Government of Ceuta decided at an extraordinary meeting held on Thursday to appear as a private prosecutor in the proceedings being handled by the National Court. This decision comes as a result of the events that occurred on July 30 and 31, when thousands of migrants massively entered Ceuta through the Tarajal border.

The judicial case is being handled by the National Court, which is the competent court in Spain to investigate these types of facts. By assuming the role of private prosecutor, the Government of Ceuta intends to actively participate in the judicial process to defend its interests regarding the events that occurred at the border.

The massive influx of migrants through the Tarajal border crossing during those two days caused a situation of great tension in the autonomous city of Ceuta, which culminated in the Spanish government's decision to temporarily close the border. The local executive justifies its intervention in the proceedings as a way of representing the interests of the city before the facts it considered irregular.
