João Carvalho, a researcher at ISCTE, stated that without the connivance of the Moroccan government, there could not have been such a strong movement and influx of migrants into Ceuta. The international relations specialist considered that Morocco achieved its objectives with the migration crisis.
According to the researcher, Morocco managed to weaken Spain's image of sovereignty through this crisis. Furthermore, the neighboring country also managed to affect the political legitimacy of Pedro Sánchez's government.
The migration crisis in Ceuta, a Spanish territory in North Africa, involved a massive influx of people, which, according to João Carvalho, was made possible due to the control that Morocco exercises over migratory flows in the region.
