MORTÁGUA: Walking Football starts on September 11 for those over 50

SAPO Notícias3 September 2026 at 18:40

The Municipality of Mortágua is launching a new sporting activity called Walking Football, with the start scheduled for September 11. This modality consists of an adapted version of football, specifically designed to allow the senior population to safely and accessibly practice physical activity.

The activity is aimed at people aged 50 and over, seeking to promote physical exercise among seniors in the region. Walking Football differs from traditional football by being played at a slower pace, without running, which reduces the risk of injuries and allows participation from people with different levels of physical fitness.

Training sessions will take place weekly on Fridays at 6:30 PM at the Mortágua sports field. The initiative aims to create a regular space for socializing and sporting practice for the senior community of the municipality.

With this project, the Mortágua local authority aims to contribute to an active and healthy aging of the population, offering an opportunity for socialization and adapted sporting practice tailored to the needs and capabilities of the elderly.
