The aviation influencer Lito Sousa left Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in São Paulo, on Tuesday (1st). He was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a rare neurological condition currently considered incurable. Even outside the hospital, Lito remains in home hospitalization, with support from nurses and hospital equipment at home.
The team accompanying the also pilot and aviation mechanic began palliative care. The family reported that this measure does not mean he is at the end of life or that the search for treatments has ended. On the contrary, the family continues trying to include him in experimental studies on the disease.
According to journalist Juliana Dantas, who specializes in Palliative Care, death and grief, this type of care should be available to anyone who receives a diagnosis of a serious illness, not being restricted only to patients in the terminal phase.
