Repsol received, in Sines, the Digital Exploration Title for the two new industrial units of Project Alba, which represent one of the largest industrial investments in Portugal in recent years. The units are destined for the production of polypropylene and linear low-density polyethylene, installed at the Repsol Industrial Complex.
The total investment amounts to approximately 820 million euros, with a combined production capacity of 600,000 tons per year, mostly destined for international markets. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, by the president of CCDR Alentejo, Ricardo Pinheiro, and by the mayors of the municipalities of Sines and Santiago do Cacém.
Ricardo Pinheiro stated that the Alentejo is taking a leading position in Europe in the production of strategic materials for industrial competitiveness, and that projects like Alba contribute to reinforcing Europe's industrial and energy sovereignty. The Digital Exploration Title confirms that the new units meet the necessary conditions to proceed to the commissioning phase.
Project Alba also includes investments in energy efficiency and in the decarbonization of the complex, through process electrification, solar energy production for self-consumption, and the installation of a four-megawatt electrolyzer, the first at industrial scale in Portugal. Repsol announced the creation of 100 permanent direct jobs and approximately 300 indirect jobs.
