CHEGA wants deportation of illegal immigrants and criminals

The CHEGA party publicly advocated a deportation policy for foreign citizens in an irregular situation in Portugal or convicted of serious crimes. Deputy Francisco Gomes, the representative of CHEGA in the Assembly of the Republic, was the voice of this proposal yesterday.

Francisco Gomes argued that the Portuguese State has a duty to control who remains in the national territory and to prioritize the safety of citizens. The party's proposal aims to apply deportation to foreigners who are illegally in the country, as well as to those convicted of crimes considered serious.

This position is part of CHEGA's usual political line on immigration, a party that has been advocating more restrictive measures regarding the entry and stay of foreign citizens in Portugal.
