The Porto City Council expressed the intention to repeat the exhibition of King D. Pedro IV's heart, which was transferred to Brazil in 2022. The monarch's heart, who was also emperor of Brazil, temporarily returned to Porto that year for an exhibition.
The exhibition of the monarch's heart was planned to take place in the Portrait Gallery of the Brotherhood of Lapa in Porto. However, before the exhibition can be repeated, it is necessary to proceed with the repair of that gallery's ceiling.
The Brotherhood of Lapa is the institution that owns the space where D. Pedro IV's heart was on display. The municipality of Porto is the main party involved in the negotiation for a new exhibition of the monarch's organ.
D. Pedro IV was king of Portugal and emperor of Brazil, having a strong historical connection to the city of Porto. His heart was donated to the city by Emperor Pedro II of Brazil, his grandson, in 1882, remaining in Porto since then.
