The Recinto do Naso, in Miranda do Douro, hosts on September 6 the 7th National Competition of the Miranda Donkey Breed, as part of the festivities in honor of Nossa Senhora do Naso. The initiative is promoted by AEPGA — Association for the Study and Protection of the Donkey Breed — and by the Municipality of Miranda do Douro, bringing together breeders and specimens of this native breed at an event dedicated to its promotion and preservation.
The program includes an information session on the challenges of breed sustainability, support measures for breeders, and the contribution of donkeys to shepherding and landscape management. Throughout the day, cultural and traditional activities are also planned, such as a rural market, traditional games, and a performance by the Pauliteiras de Malhadas.
On the same date, the Miranda Plateau Hiking Trail takes place, departing from Miranda do Douro and arriving at Naso. The route covers approximately 15 kilometers and passes through the towns of Miranda do Douro, Póvoa, and Naso.
All these initiatives are part of the Nossa Senhora do Naso festivities program and aim to promote the rural, cultural, and natural heritage of the municipality of Miranda do Douro.
