The Aqueduto de Vila do Conde guaranteed its place in the national semi-final of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal, after securing qualification in the regional stage. The monument from Vila do Conde now joins the group of 49 semi-finalists competing for a spot in the final phase of this initiative.
The application, submitted by the City Council of Vila do Conde, distinguished itself among the 629 candidates submitted nationwide. The Aqueduto was part of the group of 147 nominees for public voting, from which it emerged as the top qualifier.
The national semi-final will be broadcast live on TVI on Saturday, September 5th, the deadline for voting. At that time, the 21 finalists — three per category — will be selected to advance to the grand final. Votes can be cast by calling the number 761 207 004.
Community mobilization has been crucial, and the municipality reinforces the call for votes, emphasizing that this is an opportunity to assert the heritage of Vila do Conde and the Northern region at the national level. With voting ongoing until Saturday, the future of the Aqueduto in the New 7 Wonders of Portugal now lies in the hands of the public.
