Benedita Lopes and Salvador Oliveira, two young athletes from Guimagym – Guimarães Gymnastics Club, have been selected to represent Portugal at the Junior World Acrobatic Gymnastics Championship, taking place between September 16 and 20 in Pesaro, Italy. The duo from Guimarães will compete in the Mixed Pairs category, following a demanding selection process. The two athletes' journey already includes a European title, having become European Champions of Acrobatic Gymnastics in April 2025, in the Mixed Pairs by Age Groups category.
To make the trip possible, Guimagym launched a crowdfunding campaign with a goal of 2,900 euros, intended to cover transportation, accommodation, meals, registrations, and technical support. To date, 1,095 euros have been raised, corresponding to 37% of the goal, through 38 supporters. The campaign runs until September 21 and will only be funded if the minimum target is reached.
The club appeals to the community to contribute and share the campaign, emphasizing that "not all of us can be in Pesaro, but all of us can help these young people get there." Benedita and Salvador will represent not only Guimagym, but also Portugal and Guimarães in a competition that brings together the world's elite of young acrobatic gymnastics, the result of hundreds of hours of training and dedication.
Founded in 2016, Guimagym emerged to address the lack of gymnastics offerings in the municipality of Guimarães and has been establishing itself in the local associative and sporting movement, with a diverse range of disciplines and age groups. Those who wish to support the campaign can do so through the PPL platform.
