The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) elected Stavros Konstantas to the Board of Supervisors, where he succeeds Ante Žigman. Konstantas's term began on 13 August and will last two and a half years, with the possibility of extension for an additional term.
Žigman, former Chairman of the Board of the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (HANFA), although re-elected for a second term, is leaving EIOPA to take up the position of Governor of the Croatian National Bank (HNB). Žigman has been a member of the European authority's Board of Supervisors since 2023.
Konstantas has extensive experience in the insurance sector having held several management positions. He was CEO of Ethinki Insurance between 2018 and 2022, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Garanta Asigurari between 2016 and 2022, and member and Vice-President of the Board of the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies.
In addition, Konstantas served on the boards of the Hellenic Actuarial Society and the Hellenic Institute of Insurance Studies. In 2023, he was appointed Director of Private Insurance Supervision at the Bank of Greece.
