Danish intelligence services have detected plans by Russian secret services to carry out acts of sabotage against defense industry companies in Denmark. The head of counter-espionage at the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET), Emil Graesholm, stated that the identification and preparation are so specific that they consider this a threat that must be taken seriously. Danish authorities are already in contact with defense companies considered potential targets.
The threat comes in the context of Denmark's military support for Ukraine, with data from the Kiel Institute, cited by Euractiv, showing that Helsinki is the largest supporter of Ukraine relative to GDP. The Ukrainian manufacturer Fire Point plans to install a solid fuel factory for military systems in Denmark, a project scheduled for 2027. Russian intelligence services are reportedly trying to recruit people through Telegram and other social media to carry out reconnaissance tasks, requesting photographs of cargo trucks, gates, or warehouses.
This denunciation comes at a time of growing concern in Europe over sabotage operations attributed to Russia. Germany stated that Moscow was behind an attempted attack with an explosive-laden drone near Leipzig/Halle airport, where the device was found near a Ukrainian aircraft. Russia rejected the accusations, calling them "completely fabricated."
