The Cáritas Diocesana de Leiria-Fatima concluded its beach colony activity dedicated to children and young people, which mobilized 260 participants throughout the summer, distributed across four shifts, with the dedication of approximately 40 young volunteers. The initiative included children from 6 to 16 years old from diverse family backgrounds, with an intentional mix of different social realities to ensure equal treatment and avoid labeling participants in situations of greater vulnerability.
In parallel, the institution started the last shift of the Senior Colony, welcoming 37 elderly people for six days at its Beach Colony, accompanied by nine volunteers. The senior project, launched in September 2024 as a response to social isolation, has gained particular relevance after the passage of storm Kristin in the region, helping to mitigate the fear and insecurity left by the severe weather.
Cáritas highlighted that these moments of fellowship and support help restore confidence, reinforce the sense of community belonging, and show people that they are not alone. With these seasonal responses, the Catholic organization reaffirms its commitment to inclusion, protection, social participation, and quality of life at all stages of life.
