Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) will invest 700 million euros in the Alentejo region by the end of 2028, covering projects both in the road network and the railway network. This investment is part of a plan to modernize and develop transport infrastructure in the region.
This Thursday, the New Eastern Variant to Évora was inaugurated, integrated into Main Itinerary 2 (IP2). This new road represents an investment of 54.9 million euros and constitutes an important milestone in improving road connections in the interior of Alentejo.
IP2 is a road of great regional importance that crosses the Alentejo territory, connecting various localities and contributing to the territorial cohesion of the region. The new variant aims to divert heavy traffic from the urban center of Évora, improving road safety and traffic flow conditions.
This 700 million euro investment is part of a broader strategy to enhance infrastructure in Alentejo, a region that has sought to strengthen its connections with the rest of the country and boost its economic development through improved accessibility.
