The Municipality of Albufeira and APEXA – Association for Support to Exceptional Persons of Algarve signed yesterday two cooperation protocols aimed at promoting the inclusion and mobility of young people and adults with specific needs in the municipality. The documents were signed by the mayor, Rui Cristina, and by the president of the APEXA Board, Nuno Neto, at a ceremony that also featured the presence of councilor Maria Cristina Corado, responsible for the Education and Social Action portfolios.
The first protocol reinforces the C'APTO Project and creates new initiatives for young adults in situations of dependence and with disabilities. The activities will take place at the Agora Space, in Quinta da Bellavista, with the Municipality being responsible for coordinating the responses and providing equipment, materials and resources, while APEXA ensures the presence of four monitors to accompany and support the participating young people.
The second protocol aims to guarantee school transport for up to 25 students with specific needs who cannot use regular transport or existing school routes. During the 2026/2027 school year, the service covers the routes between the residence and the educational establishments in the morning and afternoon sessions, and may also support participation in field trips carried out within the municipality. For this purpose, the Municipality provides a nine-seater vehicle, ensures fuel supply, and supports the hiring of a monitoring driver, while APEXA takes on the routes and student accompaniment.
The municipality states that the partnership aims to contribute to a more inclusive community, in which everyone has the conditions to learn, participate, and develop their abilities.
