The Seat brand faces an existential crisis as the Volkswagen group evaluates the future of its Spanish subsidiary. According to German media, the consortium is studying the possibility of discontinuing the Seat brand from 2029 as part of the measures to save the parent company.
The crisis of the Volkswagen group, which exploded before summer, threatens to take with it one of the icons of the Spanish automotive industry. Seat has known for years that its days were numbered, and now the brand could enter the list of territories that can be sacrificed by the German conglomerate.
It is important to note that, although the Seat brand could be discontinued, the company itself would not disappear, since it also manufactures Cupra vehicles, which guarantees some industrial continuity in Spain.
The decision about Seat's future will be made in Wolfsburg, headquarters of the Volkswagen group, and represents a crucial moment not only for the Spanish brand, but for the entire automotive ecosystem of the Iberian Peninsula.
