The Stellantis factory in Mangualde, founded in 1962 under the name Citroën Lusitânia, reached on September 2 the historic milestone of two million vehicles produced. The vehicle that represented this countless achievement was the Citroën ë-Berlingo Van, in grey, in a special edition Berlingo 30 years, destined for a customer in the Leiria region.
This new milestone comes after the plant recorded its historic record with 91,670 vehicles produced last year, representing 27% of all automobile production in Portugal. With a daily production of 372 vehicles across three shifts, of which 95% are destined for export, the factory employs 900 workers directly and is responsible for over a thousand indirect jobs.
Múcio Brasileiro, director of the Stellantis Mangualde production center, commented that reaching this milestone is a testament to the rigor, passion and commitment of several generations of workers, highlighting that the plant remains focused on leading the transition to electric mobility.
The factory, which has already produced iconic models such as the Citroën DS, MÉHARI, AX and Saxo, and manufactured the last 2CV in the world in 1990, currently produces light commercial vehicles and passenger versions for Peugeot, Citroën, Opel and Fiat. Mangualde was the first factory in Portugal to produce electric vehicles in large series and, in June, was chosen to produce the new versions of the vans for these four brands.
