Eighty-four migrants, including a baby, died during a crossing between Gambia and the Canary Islands, in Spain. The boat, which was initially carrying 128 people, drifted at sea for 26 days before being found.
When it was discovered, only 44 people had survived the crossing. The small boat had departed from Gambia heading to the Canary Islands.
The incident happened on one of the most dangerous migratory routes in the Atlantic, linking the west African coast to the Spanish archipelago of the Canary Islands.
