The Polytechnic University of Bragança is about to become a full university, which will allow for expanded training opportunities and strengthen scientific capacity, internationalization, and the attraction of students and talent, according to the institution and the Bragança municipality.
The president of UPB, Orlando Rodrigues, said the decision was not unexpected, as the process had been underway. The application for transition to university status had been submitted in February. According to Rodrigues, the surprise was the timing, not the event itself.
The institution had already become, on August 1st, from a Polytechnic Institute to a Polytechnic University, following the change in the legal framework for higher education. Now, the new announced process aims to transform the entire institution into a university.
