"Crisis preparation": Netherlands transfers billions in gold reserves that were in the USA

CNN Portugal3 September 2026 at 13:29

The Netherlands transferred billions of euros in gold reserves that were deposited in the United States. The operation, described as "crisis preparation," involved the covert transport of more than 30 tonnes of gold.

Dutch authorities did not explain how it was possible to transfer such a quantity of gold to a protected vault located at a military base. The transport was carried out without prior public disclosure.

The operation raises questions about the reasons that led the Dutch government to decide to repatriate its gold reserves, at a time when global geopolitical tensions have been increasing.

International finance experts point out that this type of movement may indicate the Netherlands' concerns about the stability of the international financial system and a possible preparation for crisis scenarios.
