An explanation then emerged for the choice of vehicle that is generating praise from fans. According to a post on social media X cited by French newspaper Le Parisien, João Neves used the van to transport hundreds of items and goods destined for charitable initiatives supported by the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation. The vehicle's load capacity was the practical reason for its use, not merely a preference for a more modest car. Even Peugeot itself joined in the fun by sharing the images on social media.
The charitable explanation, however, was not officially confirmed by the club or the PSG Foundation. The information originated from a post by a user connected to club news, and Le Parisien presents it as such, without institutional confirmation. Despite this, the reaction on social media was overwhelmingly positive, with comments praising the Portuguese player's simplicity and generosity.
The Paris Saint-Germain Foundation, created in 2000, has the mission of supporting disadvantaged children, young people and communities in difficulty, developing educational and sports programmes. João Neves, who was born in Tavira in 2004, transferred to PSG in the summer of 2024, signing a five-season contract, and has been gaining popularity among Parisian fans also for the image of simplicity he conveys off the pitch.
