EU to audit Portugal on animal and plant health in 2027

Observador3 September 2026 at 13:05

The European Union will carry out audits in Portugal in 2027 on animal and plant health. These audits are part of a verification programme of Member States to ensure compliance with European standards in these areas.

Audits are scheduled on vector-borne diseases, which are diseases spread by insects or other organisms. This area is considered a priority due to the risks these pathologies pose to public and animal health.

Another topic under review will be the monitoring of the sanitary status of Aujeszky's disease in Portugal. This viral disease primarily affects pigs and is important for the country's livestock sector.

The audits will also cover the sustainable use of pesticides and import controls, verifying whether Portugal complies with European standards in these areas.
