The Government decided to increase the State's public guarantee by 100 million euros to allow Novo Banco and Caixa Económica Montepio Geral to continue supporting young people up to 35 years old in purchasing a home through mortgage credit. This increase comes in response to requests submitted by these two banking institutions.
With a maximum limit of 15% of the public guarantee relative to the transaction value, the additional 100 million euros could enable approximately 666 million euros in housing credit for young people.
Order No. 10855/2026, published this Wednesday in the Official Gazette, formalizes this measure and establishes the conditions for its implementation. The objective is to facilitate access to homeownership for young people, one of the population groups most affected by credit access difficulties and the high cost of housing.
