SANTA MARTA DE PENAGUIÃO INVOLVES YOUTH IN FIRE PREVENTION AND NATURE PROTECTION

The Municipality of Santa Marta de Penaguião promoted, between July and September, another edition of the "Young Volunteering for Nature and Forests" program, developed in partnership with the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth (IPDJ). During this initiative, young volunteers participated in various environmental awareness and rural fire prevention actions, as well as in surveillance activities at different locations throughout the municipality. The program also included collaboration with the Wildlife Animal Recovery Center of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), in monitoring the return of wild animals to their natural environment. The participation of volunteers allowed for the reinforcement of prevention and awareness actions in the territory, involving young people in the protection of the forest and local biodiversity.
