Over 70 migrants, including a baby, died at sea when the vessel they were traveling on sank on the way to the Canary Islands. The boat was adrift for 26 days before being located on Wednesday.
The vessel had departed from Gambia with 128 people on board, including four women and a baby. Only 44 people survived the crossing.
The boat was found after nearly a month lost at sea, in a journey that proved fatal for most of the passengers.
This incident once again raises alerts about the deadly risks of migratory routes crossing the Atlantic toward the Canary Islands, Spanish territory that has become a frequent destination for migrants from West Africa.
