The seventh edition of FAVA – Algarve Environment and Vegan Fair takes place between September 18th and 20th at Parque Municipal de Loulé, organized by the Benfazer association, which presents it as the largest vegan fair in Portugal. The event, created in 2018, features over 100 exhibitors, 100 activities and 14 thousand square meters of grounds, with free entry, expecting to receive thousands of visitors from various regions of the country.
Over the three days, the event represents over 20 sectors, including agriculture, food, crafts, gardening, books and clothing. The organization expects to serve around five thousand plant-based meals, surpassing the 4,125 meals from the previous edition, through more than 30 gastronomic stalls offering proposals such as francesinhas, hamburgers, pizzas, pastries, cakes and ice cream, as well as teas, smoothies and craft beers.
The program includes 17 shows of theater, poetry, live music, dance and magic, showcookings, lectures with personalities linked to veganism, and activities such as pilates, yoga, capoeira, tai chi, traditional games and workshops. There is also a planned swap market for clothing, footwear, accessories and books, as well as a repair zone for broken objects where visitors can learn to fix items instead of discarding them.
The Benfazer association focuses on reduction, reuse and recycling to minimize environmental impact, rejecting fuel-powered generators and using compostable or reusable dishes and recycled fabric bags. Following principles of social, environmental and animal welfare, the organization highlights that all initiatives aim to promote care for body and mind, protect the environment and respect animal life. According to coordinator Domingos Pereira, there are reports of tourists who travel to vegan events across Europe and say they know of nothing similar to FAVA.
